I was sitting in my Medical Assisting class and this movie was playing about advances in the medical field. This topic came up and the first hospital it talked about was Massachusetts General Hospital. This hospital is one of the best in the country and has a huge research facility. I decided to share the story of one doctor who took the initiative to make a difference.
Dr. John perren Cobb
Regenerated organs is the vision for the ICU at Mass General. "It's impossible to take care of patients and not think about what one might better," Dr. Cobb says this in efforts to leave the past behind and move on to a brighter future to help patients get stronger and healthier. Cobb's has many visions for the ICU and one of his long term ones has been " in the next 50 years, to figure out how to get patients off machines and have them do well, " and he has gotten to see his plans in action. Researcher Dr. Harald Ott did the actual experiments with organs. In the heart, the beating muscle grew from seven to ten days! That is very quick and just goes to show that there is hope for one day to actually put one of these hearts in patients. Everyday at Mass General, Dr. Cobb gets closer and closer to seeing his vision come true with this fascinating discovery !
