The Human Heart <3
This is the most vital organ in the human body. Without the heart, us humans would not be able to live. Keep reading to learn how the heart does this !
Function
Before we get to the main function of the heart there is a couple of things that I need to make clear. For the basics, the heart acts as a pump for the blood , to pump it everywhere around the body. But there is a reason why the human body does this and I will tell you why, but first let's talk about the blood.
Blood is broken down into three parts, whole blood, plasma, and the puffy coat. Whole blood is where the red bloods cells are found. It contains a protein called hemoglobin which it doesn't sound like much but it actually plays a big role. It is responsible for carrying the oxygen in the blood and that is what makes it so important, because all the cells in our body need that oxygen to survive, without it they wouldn't be able to complete their daily processes. The puffy coat contains platelets ( which are used for clotting ) and white blood cells ( protect the body against disease and infection) which is transported to the whole body as well. Now lastly we have the plasma, which plays a pretty decent role. It carries nutrients to the cells and the waste away. Without it, there would be no way for the cells to get proper nutrients to survive or rid of it's waste.
I know all the material I just threw at you was a lot and complicated, but that is what the heart is. Its key function is to make sure our cells get the oxygen and nutrients they need, because if not cells would not be able to function and there would be no life.

Structure
The heart is the only specialized organ that is made up of cardiac muscle. Here is a picture to give you a better understanding of what inside the heart looks like.
The heart has four chambers, the right atrium, right ventricle, left atrium and left ventricle. I'll give you the simple version in my books. Blood enters the heart and passes through the right atrium. Then the right ventricle pushes it to the lungs to pick up oxygen and then it is pushed back through the left atrium and then the left ventricle does the most work to push it to the rest of the body. To make things easier and give you a more detailed explanation I am going to let this fantastic doctor tell you about it... : )
